Playful Interactive Video not only with H5P

How to explain the principle of operation of any mechanism or process of solving a problem? This can be done in two ways. The first is in the form of text and a large number of pictures, the second is with the help of video with clear visualization. Agree, the video is more effective, because it clearly explains anything.

The main problem when watching training videos is the passivity of the audience. Therefore, there is a need to attach study tasks to the video, organize a survey or discussion, provide the video with additional information or links to web resources. That is, to make the video interactive.

In this post I’s like to share my knowledge in this area and introduce the capabilities of some services for creating interactive video with annotations, explanations and links:

VideoAnt  is a service for adding text annotations, explanations and comments to YouTube videos. There is the possibility of collective work. The service is also available on mobile devices.

VideoNot service allows you to add text comments to any point in the video. These can be explanations, translation of foreign words, dates, names, etc. To work with VideoNot, you need a Google account. The final video with comments will be saved on Google Drive. Editing videos can be added from YouTube, Vimeo, from Khan Academy, Coursera. Ready videos can be shared and invited to be edited, as is the case with a regular Google document. If you set the joint editing mode, you can organize a discussion of the video right in the section for text notes. Here, students can ask questions to the teacher, if something remains unclear, or, conversely, answer the teacher’s questions.

ThingLink is a service for creating interactive images (posters) and interactive video. At any point in the video, you can attach a link to a web page, image, presentation, video. The service supports Cyrillic. The video is downloaded from YouTube or from the Brightcove platform. Interactive video can be shared on social networks and get the code to embed it on sites, blogs. The service allows you to complement the training videos with additional information on the topic. For example, a video story about the writer’s work can be supplemented with references to the texts of his works; video about the nature of the native land – links to web resources with information about the flora and fauna of the region, etc. As additional materials, you can use the creative work of students on the topic (presentations, interactive posters, illustrations, infographics, etc.).

WireWax is an online service for creating interactive video. With it, you can leave notes in the desired parts of the video, add annotations to the video, links to web pages, maps, embedded objects (presentations, site pages) and images. The service allows you to add two types of tags (labels) to the video: static and dynamic. Static tags are notes and video annotations that appear at the right moment and then disappear. Dynamic tags are labels and annotations that are attached to a specific character of a video and appear whenever it is in a frame. A link to the created video can be shared on social networks, as well as embedded in the page of the site or blog.
